Day 1 :

Arrival at the Airport

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, your private driver-guide will transfer you to your accommodation. After a briefing and equipment check by your safari guide, enjoy dinner and overnight rest, preparing for your trek.

Day 2 :

Arusha to Machame Gate (1800m) - Machame Camp (2850m)

Hiking Time: 5 hours
Distance: About 7 km
Habitat: Montane forest
Drive to Machame Gate, complete registration, and start your ascent through the rain forest. Expect muddy and slippery conditions. Porters will prepare your camp ahead of you.

Day 3 :

Machame Camp (2850m) - Shira Cave (3750m)

Hiking Time: 5 hours
Distance: About 7 km
Habitat: Moorland
Hike from Machame Camp to Shira Cave, passing through the moorland zone. Enjoy views of the Western Breach and glaciers. Prepare for colder temperatures at Shira Cave.

Day 4 :

Shira (3750m) - Lava Tower (4600m) - Barranco Camp (3900m)

Hiking Time: 7 hours
Distance: About 11 km
Habitat: Semi-desert
Ascend to Lava Tower for lunch and acclimatization. Descend to Barranco Camp, taking in the stunning scenery and sunset views of the Breach Wall.

Day 5 :

Barranco Camp (3900m) - Karanga Camp (3995m)

Hiking Time: 4 hours
Distance: About 7 km
Habitat: Semi-desert
Navigate the Barranco Wall, an exciting but non-technical climb. Continue to Karanga Camp, passing the last water point.

Day 6 :

Karanga Camp (3995m) - Barafu Camp (4667m)

Hiking Time: 3 hours
Distance: About 2 km
Habitat: Alpine desert
Hike to Barafu Camp, where you can enjoy views of Mawenzi Peak and prepare for the summit attempt. Rest and prepare for the challenging climb ahead.

Day 7 :

Summit Attempt - Barafu Camp (4667m) - Uhuru Peak (5895m) - Mweka (3100m)

Hiking Time: 14 hours
Distance: About 14 km
Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit
Begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak at midnight. Reach Stella Point and then Uhuru Peak to witness the sunrise. Descend to Mweka Camp, navigating through varied terrains.

Day 8 :

Mweka Camp (3100m) - Mweka Gate (1980m)

Hiking Time: 3 hours
Distance: About 2 km
Habitat: Forest
Descend to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Enjoy lunch and celebrate with your mountain crew before transferring to a hotel in Moshi or Arusha for relaxation or heading to the airport.
