7 Days Kilimanjaro Trekking Rongai Route

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, your private driver-guide will transfer you to your accommodation. After a briefing and equipment check by your safari guide, enjoy dinner and overnight rest, preparing for your trek.

Drive to Rongai Gate for registration, then start your hike through a gentle ascent in beautiful forested terrain. Camp at Simba Camp, equipped with basic facilities.

Habitat: Moorland
Ascend to the ‘Second Cave’ with views of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields. Continue across the moorland towards Kikelewa Caves, camped in a sheltered valley.

Distance: About 5 km
Habitat: Heath Zone
Short but steep climb up grassy slopes to Mawenzi Tarn, with stunning views of Mawenzi’s spires. Spend the afternoon acclimatizing and exploring the area.

Distance: About 7 km
Habitat: Alpine desert
Ascend the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, reaching Kibo Hut for rest and preparation for the final ascent. Overnight at Kibo Hut.

Hiking Time: 8 hours
Distance: About 11 km
Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit
Begin your summit attempt just before midnight. Climb through rocky paths to Gillman’s Point, then to Uhuru Peak. Descend to Kibo Hut for a brief rest, then continue to Horombo Hut for the night.

Habitat: Moorland + Rain Forest
Descend from Horombo Hut, passing Mandara Hut to Marangu Gate. Receive your summit certificate—green for Gillman’s Point, gold for Uhuru Peak. Enjoy lunch and a celebration with your mountain crew.

Transfer to a hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a hot shower, dinner, and overnight, or to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back home.
