6 Days Kilimanjaro Trekking Itinerary – Marangu Route

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro or Arusha Airport, a private driver-guide will transfer you to your accommodation for dinner and overnight. A briefing and equipment check will be conducted to ensure you’re ready for the trek ahead.

Habitat: Montane Forest

Begin your trek at Marangu Gate after registration, ascending through the misty rainforest. The trail leads to Mandara Hut, where you’ll stay overnight. The hut offers solar-powered lighting and flush toilets.

Distance: Approximately 11 km
Habitat: Moorland

Today’s hike takes you through forest and moorland, passing Maundi Crater with views of Kibo Crater and glaciers on clear days. You’ll arrive at Horombo Hut in the afternoon for dinner and overnight.

Distance: Approximately 8 km
Habitat: Alpine Desert

As the air thins, the trek becomes more challenging. You’ll cross the “Saddle” between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, reaching Kibo Hut to rest and prepare for the final ascent.

Distance: Approximately 11 km
Habitat: Stone Scree and Ice-Capped Summit

Your toughest day starts before midnight as you ascend to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your success, you’ll descend back to Kibo Hut for a brief rest, then continue to Horombo Hut for the night.

Habitat: Moorland and Rain Forest

The final descent takes you through Mandara Hut to Marangu Gate. After receiving your summit certificate and enjoying a celebratory lunch, you’ll be transferred to your hotel or the airport.
