7 Days Kilimanjaro Trekking – Marangu Route

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, your private driver-guide will transfer you to your accommodation. After a briefing and equipment check by your safari guide, enjoy dinner and overnight rest, preparing for your trek.

After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate for registration and the start of your trek. Ascend through the lush rainforest, following a stream through moss-covered undergrowth, leading to Mandara Hut. The huts at Mandara are equipped with solar-generated lighting and provide a comfortable rest for the night.

Continue your ascent towards Horombo Hut. Pass through the Maundi Crater, offering stunning views of Kibo Crater and the glaciers of Kibo. The trail takes you into the moorland, where you’ll encounter unique plant species like giant lobelia and groundsel. Arrive at Horombo Hut for a well-deserved rest.

This day is dedicated to acclimatization. Take a hike towards Mawenzi, a nearby peak, to help your body adjust to the altitude. This hike is about 1.5 hours each way and is highly recommended to increase your chances of reaching the summit.

Today’s trek takes you to Kibo Hut, situated in a barren, rocky area known as the "Saddle" between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The climb becomes more challenging as the air thins. Prepare your gear for the summit attempt, as you’ll need to be ready for the final ascent in just a few hours.

Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit
Your summit attempt begins just before midnight. Climb the steep path to Gillman’s Point, then continue through snow to reach Uhuru Peak. After celebrating your achievement at the top, descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest, followed by a further descent to Horombo Hut.

Habitat: Moorland & Rainforest
After breakfast, continue your descent, passing Mandara Hut before reaching Marangu Gate. Here, you will sign out and receive your summit certificates. Celebrate with your mountain crew before being transferred back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, or to the airport for your departure.
